Hall of Fame Member – Kevin Fay

SPS Member: 2006 to Present

Elected to Hall of Fame in 2023

Kevin Fay joined the Springfield Photographic Society in 2006 and has been a very active member, joining the Board of Directors 11 years ago and serving as president for seven of those years.

Tim Donelan, who nominated Kevin for the Hall of Fame, said, “I cannot think of anyone more deserving of induction into the Springfield Photographic Society than my friend, Kevin Fay.”

Tim said, “Kevin has worked tirelessly for the club, transforming it from being relativity unknown to having a real presence in Western Massachusetts. He is dedicated to promoting the club in the community and knows how to engage people.”

His first photo outing was at the 1964 World’s Fair with a Kodak Brownie. The next step was a cross country road trip the summer after freshman year of college. He captured images of grand landscapes, to this day the heart of Kevin’s photographic interests. For college graduation, Kevin’s parents gave him a Minolta SLR, which he took on hikes in the White Mountains, and climbs of Half Dome and Mt. Rainier.

Photography rose to another level for Kevin with the arrival of the digital camera. He got his first in 2004 and joined the SPS two years later. He has grown as a photographer by observing the work of other members and receiving feedback from club judges on his own work. Kevin enjoys printing his images and received the 2023 Print of the Year Award from the NECCC.

“When you get down to it,” Kevin said, “photography is the ability to capture a moment in time, forever, and share it with everyone. That is why I love photography.”

The public face of the SPS has been more prominent than ever during Kevin’s term as president. The club has had 18 public installations of photography exhibits of our members’ work. These exhibits include All Roads Lead from Springfield, 43 Towns, The Agriculture of New England, The Towns of Berkshire County and Capturing Our Worlds: Works of the Springfield Photographic Society. The latter was the highest-level exhibit ever assembled by the club and hung in the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts for a full year. He has served on the board of the NECCC, representing the Springfield Photographic Society.

Kevin earned a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University in 1973 and an MBA from George Washington University two years later. He was employed at Friendly’s for 33 years and held a variety of management positions in Accounting and I.T., including senior director of I.T. He finished his career as controller at FL Roberts. Kevin grew up in Indian Orchard and was class president at Classical High School.

Congratulations to Kevin Fay on his induction into the Springfield Photographic Society Hall of Fame.
