Paul Deegan has been active in photography since age 12. He photographed his first portrait at age 14 and his first wedding at age 15. He operated his own wedding & portrait business (McDee Studio of Photography) for more than 25 years while maintaining membership in the Professional Photographers of America, the PSA and the Springfield Photographic Society where he held the positions of newsletter editor, vice president of prints, club president and chairman of the club’s PSA International. Paul was club president on his own for two terms (1985 and 1986) and as part of a steering committee in 1991 and 1992.
Paul provided production support for the PSA International for 15 years. He was a vice president of New England Camera Club Council for 22 years and has lectured throughout New England on photographic subjects of portraiture, travel, nature, printing, digital and black & white photography and creation of multi-media presentations.
Paul maintained his membership in the PSA and SPS while actively participating in PSA exhibits around the globe. He has judged photography exhibitions at the local, regional and international level, and has been a mentor to many of the current judges in our club. In recognition of Paul’s outstanding service and leadership during his 43-year membership in our club, the year-end award for best black & white digital image has been renamed the Paul Deegan Award for Black & White Digital Image.
