Hi Everyone – This forum is for us to communicate simple club trips and get togethers over the summer. Anyone can post an event/trip/walk. If you have an interest in a photography event/walk/trip and would like some company post the details here.

    I’m interested in trips.
FYI..Ashley reservoir is also a good place to get photos of dragonflies. Look on the grassy strip along the shore to the left as you walk in from the parking area off Route 202. You might get lucky and find some damsel flies too.

Larry … Thanks for doing this. I will be super busy right through to July 22. However, I have subscribed to this forum and will jump in when I can.

Hi, Larry – I am interested in the Ashley Reservoir walk. I’ve not been there before. Where should we meet/park? Thanks.~Carol Reed

The main entrance/parking lot to Ashley on Rte 202 has been sealed off for over a year now. There is no room to even park along Rte 202. It was closed because of traffic issues. It’s a dangerous curve and the neighbors were complaining of the traffic. You have to go to the entrance before and either park at the Elks Club [allowed] or further down at the gate. The Elks trail is a bit closer to the cove near the main entrance, but still a good hike. Also, the roadside growth that the dragonflies/damselflies like hasn’t grown back yet. The WW departments mows it down every season to maintain good growth the following season and to stop it from growing rogue. I wouldn’t expect to see a slew of dragonflies until July/August or until the shrubs/wildflowers start growing.

Our blueberries category for the BigE project will be coming up this summer. I’ve found a blueberry farm in Heath, MA. The Benson Place It’s certainly closer than northern Maine!

Hi Everyone – For Ashley Reservoir on Saturday, lets meet at Hunt’s at 8am. Then we can take the 5 minute drive over to one of the entrances. Please bring your tripod, a wide angle lens and a telephone lens. I will bring my laptop some I can show you how to combine the images into panoramas.

Hi Folks – I have a new Photo Op for you. The 9/11 memorial at Riverfront Park will be dedicated on June 19th. It appears it will be a big event. The memorial should be very interesting to photograph and the dedication will be very emotional. I hope someone goes and gets some good shots.

I’ve watched a few videos and came away with these pointers. Some are a bit complicated.
    1 – use manual settings
    2 – bracket shots
    3 – use manual focus
    4 – aperture f/8 recommended
    5 – use a tripod!
6 – make sure you tripod is set up straight – some have a level bubble to go by
    7 – shoot portrait
    8 – overlap shots by 1/3rd
9 – use LR to develop in HDR
    10- photo merge
11- ounce you’ve merged the photos into 1 shot be careful when using the sliders
to adjust the shot. Instead use the paint brush to spot adjust

Larry, do you a simplified version of instructions or is this pretty much it.

Rachel – those are all the key points. Maybe a few do not need to be followed all the time. But we will practice the technique on Saturday.

Also bring a wide angle lens and a telephoto – but not your 200-500. 500 will be too much.

Hi Everyone – I have a Moon rise Photo Op for you all, for next Sunday. It is very similar to last month. The attached image has all the details. I hope you can go, I will not be able to make it. I expect the lighting to be really good, because the sun will set at the same time the moon is visible behind the Summit House.

Bring your big lens and get a tight shot of the Summit House with the Moon.

    Larry
